(1)The talks between the foreign secretaries of India and Bangladesh,
held on July 24, have gone on expected lines.
on the one hand, bangladesh expects a lot from india. on the other,
for india, the window of opportunity that it had in
bangladesh is slowly closing and there is need for the speeding up
the initiative to find ways that would have a lasting
impact on bilateral relations. Neverthless, frequent interactions
between leaders and high level officials of the two countries
have helped them exchange and voice each other's concerns. At the
same time, china is there to offer India competition in reaching
out to the Bangladeshi. The recent offer of chinease companies to
the bangladesh government to finance the 2.9 billion Padma Multi-
purpose Bridge within jujst a few days after the World Bank
cancelled its loan exemplifies the promptness of he chinease
diplomatic
machinery in identifying the right trigger in expanding its
influence over India's eastern neighbour.(source-Hindustan Times

(2)As flanking states in the eastern Indian Ocean, India and Australia
are critical to this emerging arena of geopolitics. Fellow democracies
with shared values, concerns and interests, they should have
strong synergies. Yet, somehow the strategic outcomes have been
sub-optimal.
Likewise, the street violence against Indian students in
Melbourne and other cities in 2009-10 was deplorable but it cannot
take away from
the fact that Australia remains a welcoming home for thousands of
Indian imigrants. Authorities in Australia have responded by cracking
down
on dubious educational institutions, and facilitating those
students genuinly seeking education.
Nevertheless, the Taskforce recognises the troubling
legacy of the period. It has recommended that"an an act of goodwill..
visas of Indian students who were in Australia on February 8,2012
and whose pathways towards permanent residency in Australia were
affected
by changes to immigration regulation in that year" extended "for
at least 12 months from December 31,2012".
(3)The Arab League's dynamism is Syria is welcome but it's also
perplexing. I am not sure why most Arab
countries vote for such sharp intervention in a member state when
they know well that this precedent
could be used against them on day. It's strange to see calls for
national unity governmentss and demo-
cratic elections by Arab countries that are mostly non-democratic
and non-representative of their people.
Neverthless, the Arab League's actions are important
in several areas. the fact that
Arab counties are taking more responsibilities for developments in
their region should reduce the
incidents of forign armies coming in to re-order us, and provide
political ligitimacy for other actors-
including individual Arab and foreign states, opposition movements
in Syria, the UN Secutiry Council and
other multinational bodies- to play a role in ending the bloodshed in
Syria and helping that country find
its way to a humance and effective governance
system.(source-Hindustan Times Monday, January 30, 2012)
(4)A sport can exist in multiple formats. there are two types of
rubgy. Real tennis and lawn tennis are close together
and yet far apart. clay court tennis and grass court tennis are often
likened to not two formats but two differents
but two different sports together. T20 cricket is in-your-face and
sledgehammer, Test Cricket is a tribute to languid subtelties
. Long term cricket is a classic and traditionallly English pasttime,
T20 and IPL borrow from an American sporting idiom.
Nevertheless, both represent sport-not one more than the
other.(source-Hindustan Times Monday, Tuesday, May 29, 2012)
(5)India is a society in the grip of rapid economic and social
trasformation. Urbanisation , unprecedented economic growth and
a widening Indian presence on the world stage are profoundly
reshaping Indian life. Indian embrace modernisation, but they also
worry about its impact on theri traditional way of life. Sceptical
about the state after decades of socialism, Indians are now
solidly committed to capitalism. About there-in-five think most
people are better off in a free market conomy, even though some are
rich
and some are poor. Those with an college degree and high-income
individuals are most likely to hold such views.
Neverthless, Indian do not think that the consequences of the
current economic order are good for the country. About eigiht-in-ten,
including 57% who agreed completely, believe that it is reallly true
today that the rich just get richer while the poor get poorer.
